Despite both having graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD), Vipin and Irrfan never crossed paths during their college years.
Vipin Sharma fondly remembers his friend, the late actor Irrfan Khan.
Five years have passed since the untimely departure of renowned actor Irrfan Khan, yet the sorrow of his loss remains palpable for many, including his close companion, Vipin Sharma. Though both actors completed their studies at the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD), their paths did not intersect during their time in school. However, once they embarked on their professional journeys, a significant friendship blossomed between them that has forever impacted Vipin.
In a heartfelt interview with Lallantop, Vipin became emotional while reminiscing about Irrfan. “Talking about Irrfan is a challenge; tears come easily,” he expressed. He recounted the moment he received the devastating news of Irrfan’s demise while on a film set in Siliguri. Just as he was preparing for a shot, he was informed, leaving him in disbelief. “Standing there, I thought, if Irrfan is gone, then what’s the meaning of this?” he reflected, his voice breaking as he continued, “I promised myself to keep my composure today. Even now, I find myself expecting his call, wanting him to tell me that I did well. I wish he could see what we’ve accomplished.”
Vipin spoke about the difficulty of not having closure, saying, “Ultimately, life is all about letting go. But the hardest part is when you don’t get the opportunity to say goodbye.”
Their bond surpassed mere friendship. Vipin revealed that he often dreams of Irrfan, both prior to and following his passing. “I’ve mentioned to him a couple of times—‘Hey, I dreamt of you.’ He would respond, ‘Tell me about it, yaar. I love hearing those stories.’” Even today, those dreams continue. A friend once advised Vipin to close his eyes and encourage Irrfan to move on, suggesting that perhaps the memories of others were preventing him from doing so. “So I prayed and told him, ‘Irrfan, it’s okay. Don’t let us hold you back.’ Still, I find myself dreaming of him,” he shared.
Vipin feels that many experienced a profound connection with Irrfan, even if they had never met him. “He had a special presence… Even those who didn’t know him grieved for him.”
