Even five years on, his friend and fellow actor Vipin Sharma continues to cherish memories of their time together, especially their final meeting in London.

Irrfan Khan passed away from a neuroendocrine tumor at the age of 53.

The final film featuring Irrfan Khan, titled Angrezi Medium, premiered in theaters on March 13, 2020. This poignant narrative centers around the relationship between a father and daughter, embodying the warmth and emotional depth that characterized Irrfan’s performances throughout his career. Tragically, just weeks after its release, on April 29, 2020, he succumbed to his illness.

Vipin Sharma, a close friend and fellow actor, fondly reminisces about their shared moments, particularly their last encounter in London.

During a conversation with Lallantop, Vipin reflected on their visit, stating, “My last meeting with him was in London, on the day his chemotherapy began. I visited him at the hospital and ascended to the fourth floor. It brought me joy to see a book by Rumi next to his bed; even in such a state, he continued to read.”

He described the unexpected coincidence of their meeting, noting that Irrfan had stepped away briefly for coffee. “As I descended, we crossed paths at the hospital entrance. He was wrapped in a shawl, and upon greeting each other, we embraced. We spent a long time chatting in his room, and his sense of humor was unchanged; he was laughing heartily.”

Vipin also recounted how Irrfan’s mini fridge was filled with food, leading him to joke, “Look yaar, look at all this food! I’m so hungry. People must think I’m perfectly fine since I’m eating like this.”

He added that the hospital staff, particularly some Malayali nurses, engaged with Irrfan regularly, playing games like hopscotch with him. “They all recognized him; that was his little world—his hospital room filled with TV shows, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, all arranged by his friends,” he noted.

“He was always engaged with whatever was on screen. Irrfan embodied resilience. The pain he endured was unimaginable, yet his curiosity and thirst for knowledge remained fierce. He even continued with a film project after everything he faced. He truly exemplified the spirit of a fighter.”

Vipin’s recollections paint a compelling picture of Irrfan Khan as a vibrant individual who, despite his serious health challenges, filled his life with humor, warmth, and a persistent zest for life.
