Vir Das Defends Coldplay Fans as Critics Call Their Attendance “Asinine”
Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das has come to the defense of fans attending Coldplay’s concerts in India, responding to criticisms regarding some concert-goers’ unfamiliarity with the band’s music. Coldplay’s recent tour has generated significant excitement, but it has also sparked conversations about the legitimacy of attendees who may not know the band’s entire catalog.
In a passionate response, Vir Das labeled the negative comments he encountered on social media as “asinine.” He emphasized that live performances should be inclusive, allowing everyone the opportunity to enjoy the music, irrespective of their prior knowledge of the songs.
On his social media page, he expressed his sentiments: “The number of asinine ‘bro, they don’t even know any Coldplay songs, they just showed up’ posts I have seen. So? Good. Now they do. It’s lights, music, dancing, and fun. Everyone’s entitled to enjoy. You don’t have the monopoly on fun because you sobbed to Yellow one time (sic).” His remarks highlight a call for unity and enjoyment among concert-goers.
Coldplay’s recent performance in Ahmedabad on January 25 marked a historic highlight in their tour, drawing massive crowds and leaving memorable impressions on attendees. Following three successful shows in Mumbai, the Ahmedabad concert showcased the band’s most celebrated hits.
As audience members share their experiences online, the overwhelming excitement and surreal nature of the concert are evident. Videos and photos capturing the vibrancy of the event have flooded social media platforms, reflecting the enthusiasm of fans who embraced the night.
After their electrifying show in Ahmedabad, Coldplay returned for their concluding performance in India at the Narendra Modi Stadium on January 26. The band, featuring Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion, is set to continue their tour, making stops in Hong Kong, South Korea, the United States, and Canada, before culminating their tour at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium on September 8.
