Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Virginia Pilot and One Dog
A Virginia pilot, known for his dedication to animal rescue, tragically lost his life in a plane crash this past Sunday. Seuk Kim, aged 49, was piloting a Mooney M20J aircraft when the incident occurred while he was en route from Maryland to Albany.
According to the Green County Sheriff’s Office, the crash took place approximately 35 miles south of Kim’s destination. Sadly, Kim was found deceased at the crash site, along with one of the three dogs he was transporting. A second dog sustained severe injuries, suffering from two broken legs, while the third was located with minor wounds. The dogs were subsequently retrieved by Hyer Ground Rescue in collaboration with PAW (Partners for Animal Welfare) and were taken for veterinary treatment.
Circumstances Surrounding the Crash
Reports indicate that poor visibility might have contributed to the tragic event. Just prior to the crash, Kim had requested an altitude change due to turbulence, as detailed in a report by Fox 5.
Kim’s commitment to animal welfare was evident in his volunteer work with Pilots N Paws, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for animals in need. Friends and family described him in his obituary as a “bright light” with a lifelong dream of flying, a passion he turned into reality by obtaining his private pilot’s certificate just four years ago.
Community Support and Investigation
In response to the tragic event, a fundraiser has been initiated to aid Kim’s family with funeral expenses, highlighting the community’s support during this difficult time. Kim’s obituary emphasized his joyful spirit and how he utilized his love for flying to make a positive impact on the lives of animals.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities including the Green County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration actively involved. Additional support for the investigation has come from the NYS Forest Rangers, Greene County Emergency Services, and local fire departments.
A Lasting Legacy of Compassion
Seuk Kim’s legacy will live on through his efforts in animal rescue and his impact on the community. His passionate spirit continues to resonate, reminding all of the selflessness and dedication often seen in those who embrace animal welfare.
