Virginia Governor Speaks on Immigration and MS-13 Arrests
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, recently joined Fox News’ “Hannity” to discuss the Trump administration’s approach to illegal immigration compared to that of President Biden. His comments were highlighted following the arrest of Henrry Josue Villatoro Santos, a prominent MS-13 gang member who had lived in the United States for more than ten years.
Santos was apprehended based on an outstanding warrant and subsequently charged with illegal possession of a firearm during a search of his residence. Youngkin played a vital role in the operation, which involved a coordinated effort among multiple agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Justice.

During an event in Hampton Roads on July 9, 2024, Youngkin addressed the media regarding a policy initiative to ban cell phones in K-12 schools across Virginia. This initiative reflects broader concerns about maintaining safety and discipline in educational environments.
In a short span, the task force has successfully apprehended 28 MS-13 gang members, along with 19 individuals from the Tren de Aragua gang, alongside numerous others involved in transnational organized crime.
Youngkin expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration, claiming that it has transformed America into a “sanctuary state” and praised former President Trump for adopting a more stringent policy on illegal immigration. He asserted the importance of teamwork among state and federal law enforcement agencies to combat gang violence effectively.
“Today, this collaboration between state police, our Department of Corrections, Homeland Security, the FBI, ICE, and many officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office resulted in the arrest of one of the top MS-13 operatives in the country,” Youngkin stated. “And let me tell you, Virginia is safer.”
Emphasizing the importance of this cooperation, Youngkin remarked that he lacked similar support during the Biden administration, stating, “I didn’t have it for three years. And as soon as President Trump showed up, we went to work. And we’re making America and Virginia safer.”
This recent crackdown on gang activity marks a notable effort by Virginia’s government to address crime, particularly as it pertains to organized groups like MS-13. The collaborative approach taken by law enforcement agencies in Virginia may serve as a model for other states grappling with similar issues of gang violence and illegal immigration.
