The anticipated new battle royale map for Warzone seems to have hit a snag, with many players attributing the delay to issues related to last-generation consoles.
It has been quite a while since Warzone unveiled a completely new standard map. The last addition was Urzikstan, introduced back in December 2023, while the Resurgence map, Area 99, arrived in November 2024.
There are rumors circulating about Verdansk, the original map, making a return in Season 3, slated to begin on March 20. However, this return isn’t entirely new; Verdansk is expected to mirror its initial version released in March 2020, featuring only minor modifications. This is a nostalgic opportunity for veteran players and an enticing prospect for newcomers who missed the original experience.
While some fans were looking forward to discovering a fresh map in line with the launch of Black Ops 6, those expectations may be changing.
Warzone Avalon map reportedly delayed
Avalon is a new fictional locale slated to be introduced in Black Ops 6, positioned along the Mediterranean in southern France. Many of the game’s maps, including the Citadelle des Morts Zombies map from Season 1 Reloaded, are set within this region.
Avalon is expected to debut in late 2025 alongside the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise. However, TheGhostOfHope has indicated that Avalon “may potentially be pushed back from its original late 2025 timeline or might be completely scrapped from Warzone due to the return of Verdansk.”
CharlieIntel further noted that “Call of Duty 2025 could still be available on PS4 and Xbox One, according to sources. It’s quite surprising to continue supporting last-generation hardware in 2025, but reports suggest the game is being developed for those consoles. This may explain why having two significant maps in Warzone concurrently is not feasible.”
Rumors persist that Call of Duty 2025 is planning to be compatible with PS4 and Xbox One. The decision to include support for older consoles is curious, and it seems that such compatibility might limit the game’s potential. pic.twitter.com/mfkmOR65Fz

This situation has led to frustration among fans, who feel that the developers are prioritizing outdated technology over innovative content.
One player expressed their discontent, questioning, “Why are we still catering to consoles that are over a decade old?”
Another user remarked, “Supporting such outdated hardware hampers the industry and restricts the true capabilities of games. It’s high time for us to move on.”
This is not an isolated incident; other maps, like Ural Mountains from Call of Duty: Cold War, have also faced delays, as has Las Almas from Modern Warfare 2, which was never released despite being leaked.
As it stands, the reintroduction of Verdansk may serve as a temporary solution to keep the player base engaged while the wait for the next new standard battle royale map continues.
