First Look at CBS’s Upcoming Prequel, NCIS: Origins
Leroy Jethro Gibbs returns to the iconic N(C)IS attire, setting the stage for the much-anticipated prequel series, NCIS: Origins. CBS has unveiled initial images showcasing Austin Stowell portraying the young Gibbs, dressed in the familiar NIS hat and jacket, with a backdrop that suggests a crime scene. In another image, Kyle Schmid embodies Mike Franks, who can be seen relaxed with his feet on a desk.
NCIS: Origins is set to premiere on Monday, October 14, at 9/8c, debuting with a two-hour episode that will transition to its regular 10/9c timeslot the following week. The narrative unfolds in 1991, years before the original NCIS, which starred Mark Harmon as Gibbs for 19 successful seasons. Notably, Harmon serves as both narrator and executive producer for the prequel. The series will explore Gibbs’ early days as a freshly minted special agent at the nascent NCIS office at Camp Pendleton, where he finds his footing within a rugged team led by the esteemed Mike Franks, portrayed by Schmid.
According to Schmid, viewers will encounter Franks at a pivotal moment in his career, where he has carved out a respected position within the agency. “He has the chance to assemble a team that he perceives as the brightest prospects within NCIS,” Schmid remarked. The series aims to delve into Franks’ mentorship role with Gibbs, revealing the foundations that shaped the beloved character known from the original series.
The supporting cast includes Mariel Molino as Lala Dominguez, Tyla Abercrumbie as Mary Jo Hayes, Diany Rodriguez as Vera Strickland, and Caleb Foote as Bernard “Randy” Randolf.
