Blue Origin is marking a significant milestone by sending an all-female crew to explore the cosmos, with Gayle King, Katy Perry, and Lauren Sanchez aboard. The live launch is being streamed by TMZ, capturing the excitement as these influential women embark on their journey into space.
The crew is rounded out by distinguished individuals including NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
The mission commenced precisely at 9:30 AM ET when the launch scaffolding was retracted from Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard rocket. Just one minute later, the rocket was successfully airborne. By 9:38 AM, after reaching its maximum altitude, the rocket began its descent, returning to Earth with a “picture perfect landing” just a minute later. Following this, the capsule deployed its parachutes and safely touched down by 9:41 AM.
Before the launch, a star-studded gathering was observed in the observation area, with appearances from notable figures such as Kris Jenner, Kendall Jenner, and Oprah Winfrey, in addition to Bezos himself.
This mission, known as NS-31, marks the 11th human flight conducted by Blue Origin and the 31st overall for Bezos’s venture into space tourism.
Bezos, who has previously ventured into space, showed support as his fiancée prepared for this landmark flight.
The flight is anticipated to be brief, as the crew will ascend to 62 miles above Earth, crossing the Kármán line, which designates the edge of space. After a short period of experiencing weightlessness, the capsule will descend back to Earth.
In total, the complete mission will last around 11 minutes from lift-off to landing, and viewers are encouraged to follow along via the live stream.
