Rising reggae artist Mortimer has collaborated with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley on a thought-provoking new music video for their track, “In My Time.” Directed by Pete Beng, the visual complements the song’s themes by exploring the current global landscape through surreal and impactful imagery.
The video presents a series of striking sequences, including a moment where Mortimer’s sunglasses transform into a projector, casting scenes of worldwide turmoil. As the two artists perform, they are surrounded by actors who depict unsettling scenarios that reflect issues of violence and the troubling effects of technology on society.
In discussing the creation of “In My Time,” Mortimer expressed feeling overwhelmed by the complexities of humanity. He noted that the song emerged from his reflections on the “trickery,” injustices, and the hypocrisy he perceives in modern life. Collaborating with producer Winta James, Mortimer aimed to evoke a sound that encapsulates the emotional weight of the current times—both haunting and intense.

Mortimer elaborated on his perspective, stating, “I started to realize that fear was being used to drive humanity by the ones who placed themselves in charge.” He critiques what he describes as self-appointed leaders whose actions threaten the very essence of human existence. He emphasizes the adverse effects of political corruption, environmental degradation, and a societal structure that perpetuates inequality. “I’ve seen crime eat away at communities; murder has become somewhat of a sport; all regard for life has been lost,” he lamented.
The track “In My Time” is featured on Mortimer’s debut album, From Within, which was released in September through Overstand Entertainment and Easy Star Records.
