Michael B. Jordan, alongside director Ryan Coogler, is experiencing significant success with their latest vampire thriller, Sinners, which continues to dominate the domestic box office this weekend.
In its opening weekend, Sinners generated an impressive $48 million from 3,308 theaters across North America, effectively claiming the top box office position from the previously leading film, A Minecraft Movie. The adaptation featuring Jack Black and Jason Momoa slipped to second place, yet it still managed to garner $40.4 million in its third weekend, bringing its total domestic earnings to $343.8 million.
New releases this weekend include the Ben Affleck-led crime thriller The Accountant 2 and a film adaptation of PlayStation’s popular game Until Dawn, although neither is expected to outperform Sinners at the box office.
Predictions for Sinners indicate that its second weekend earnings could range between $25 million and $30 million. Industry experts at Variety estimate a slightly higher take, suggesting revenue could reach $27 million to $35 million in its follow-up weekends.
On the other hand, Deadline offers a more conservative forecast, estimating earnings between $19 million and $24 million for the film’s second frame.
Regarding A Minecraft Movie, analysts from Box Office Pro predict a domestic tally of $20 million to $25 million for its fourth weekend, but Deadline and Variety have refrained from providing new estimates.
Challengers: ‘The Accountant 2’ and ‘Until Dawn’ Enter the Arena
Variety expects The Accountant 2, the sequel to 2016’s original film, to probe into the $20 million to $25 million range from 3,610 theaters, whereas Deadline anticipates an opening of $20 million or more for the title. Box Office Pro sees potential for an even stronger launch, projecting $22 million to $28 million.
For the horror thriller Until Dawn, which is debuting in 3,000 theaters, both Variety and Deadline suggest it will also land within the $8 million to $10 million bracket, with Deadline predicting a slightly lower opening of $8 million to $9 million.
This weekend’s cinematic offerings are further highlighted by the 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Projections from Variety indicate that this film could pull in $20 million to $22 million. Conversely, Box Office Pro foresees a weekend revenue of $18 million to $23 million, with Deadline noting that the film has already achieved ticket pre-sales between $20 million and $25 million.
