The major shopping events of 2024, including Black Friday, Prime Day, and the holiday sales, are now behind us. Many consumers seeking new smartphones likely took advantage of these promotional opportunities, and it’s probable that numerous old devices were traded in during this period. This brings us to the renewed smartphone market, particularly the offerings from Apple.

This week, we will concentrate on iPhones, as significant discounts on Apple products are infrequent, making them a less common topic in these discussions. We will begin our examination with the newest models, gradually moving back to those from the iPhone 13 series, which debuted in late 2021.

Interestingly, renewed iPhone 16 models are now on the market. While these do not offer substantial price discounts compared to brand new versions, some configurations, especially those with higher storage capacities, provide considerable savings. The iPhone 16 lineup features advanced capabilities such as Apple Intelligence, new Camera Control options, and the innovative Action Button. It’s noteworthy that the Pro models are larger than the standard versions, differing in dimensions with Pro models measuring 6.3” and 6.9” versus the regular models at 6.1” and 6.7”.

Apple continues to offer a range of older non-Pro iPhones, extending back to the 14-series. We will include comparisons with the prices of new units whenever feasible. However, if you are in the market for previous Pro models, your options are limited as Apple no longer stocks them. For those interested in trading in devices, Amazon has introduced a trade-in program that offers up to $220 in credit for renewed phone purchases.

The iPhone 15 series marked a significant shift for Apple as it was the first to feature a USB-C connector, a design choice that is likely to continue in future models. Buyers of the iPhone 15 will notice the absence of some of the advanced features found in the iPhone 16 series, such as the new control mechanisms and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. Additionally, potential buyers should keep in mind that the iPhone 15 Pro has a telephoto camera with a shorter focal length compared to the Pro Max (77mm versus 120mm). Importantly, while both the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max utilize Apple Intelligence, the standard 15 models do not.

Moving back, the iPhone 14 series was the last to utilize the Lightning connector. Many users might already own several Lightning cables, and these accessories remain readily available. Furthermore, the MagSafe system is nearly ubiquitous, facilitating convenient wireless charging. However, it’s important to note that the two standard iPhone 14 models do not benefit from the camera upgrades introduced in the 15-series, which boasted a 48MP main camera, while the Pro versions did.

The older iPhone 13 series, which launched in 2021, features 12MP main cameras across its four models and predates Apple’s transition to LTPO technology. While the Pro variants do support 120Hz displays, they lack the adaptability in frame rates seen in newer models. For those seeking a compact yet powerful smartphone, the iPhone 13 mini remains one of the last opportunities to acquire a smaller form factor device.
