Incident Involving Author Jillian Lauren and Police Shooting
Recent developments have surfaced regarding the arrest of Jillian Lauren, a notable author recognized for her best-selling works and her marriage to Scott Shriner, the bassist for the rock band Weezer.
The incident occurred in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, a day that took a drastic turn as Lauren was shot by police and subsequently detained on charges of attempting to murder a peace officer.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, a hit-and-run incident transpired at approximately 3:25 p.m. on the 134 Freeway, prompting three suspects to flee into Lauren’s residential area.
Law enforcement personnel arrived to investigate the scene and discovered Lauren in a backyard, reportedly armed with a firearm. The police issued commands for her to relinquish the weapon, but she allegedly refused to comply. The Los Angeles Times further reported that during the confrontation, Lauren is said to have fired at officers, leading to her being shot in return.
Following the incident, it was reported that Lauren managed to return to her home but eventually came outside again. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department were summoned and transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound, which has been deemed non-life-threatening.
The LAPD’s statement indicated that the matter is being thoroughly investigated, and a 9mm handgun was recovered from Lauren’s residence. Evidence from the scene, including shell casings and video surveillance, was analyzed prior to her arrest on suspicion of attempted murder against a peace officer.
As of now, no formal charges have been filed against Lauren. If convicted, she faces a potential sentence ranging from five to nine years; the involvement of a firearm could further exacerbate the sentencing outcome.
Lauren was released on Wednesday evening after posting bail set at $1 million, with her next court appearance scheduled for April 30.
As for her husband, Scott Shriner was seen out walking his dogs and briefly addressed inquiries about Jillian’s condition, assuring, “She’s all right, thank you for asking,” and expressed his anticipation for his scheduled performance at Coachella this coming weekend.
Since 2005, Lauren and Shriner have been married and are parents to two children. She is acclaimed for penning works such as “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem” and “Behold the Monster: Facing America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer.”
