WhatsApp is currently piloting two innovative features within its latest beta versions for Android users. The messaging platform, owned by Meta, has introduced a widget designed to streamline access to its AI chatbot, thereby eliminating the need to open the app. Additionally, a feature enabling AI-generated group icons is being tested by select beta users, allowing them to create and customize group images through prompts utilizing Meta AI. These upgrades are anticipated to become accessible to all WhatsApp users on iOS and Android in the future.

Beta Testers Explore AI-Generated Group Icons

Following an update to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.6.10 (via feature tracker WABetaInfo), some beta participants can utilize a new option for generating images through Meta AI. By selecting the pencil icon next to an existing group icon, users will find a new feature labeled Create AI Image.

Gadgets 360 confirmed the availability of this feature in the latest WhatsApp beta version for Android. After clicking on Create AI Image, users will encounter a prompt screen powered by Meta AI. Here, beta testers can input various prompts to generate multiple images, which they can browse through and choose as their new group icon.

In addition, the recent update to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.6.14 introduced a new home screen widget. This widget acts as a shortcut for users to swiftly access the Meta AI chatbot without opening the application.

Although WABetaInfo’s screenshots display a larger widget with three buttons—Ask Meta AI, Camera, and Voice—Gadgets 360 could only implement a streamlined version, which includes the Ask Meta AI button after updating to version 2.25.6.14.

By tapping the Ask Meta AI button, users are directed to a chat interface with the Meta AI chatbot within WhatsApp, where they have the option to input their queries through text or utilize the Camera and Voice buttons for image or voice prompts. For users on the stable version of WhatsApp, access to the Meta AI chatbot currently requires opening the app and selecting the Meta AI floating action button (FAB) until the new widget is made available to all users.
