WhatsApp Channels Introduces QR Code Feature for Enhanced Sharing

Since their debut last year, WhatsApp Channels have seen significant improvements, with Meta continuously enhancing functionality. The latest update, now in beta testing, empowers users to effortlessly share, view, and follow these Channels using a QR code feature embedded in the app. This capability is currently available to select beta testers on both iOS and Android platforms, heralding a broader rollout in the future.

New Functionality Allows QR Codes to Be Exported

The addition of QR code sharing was first identified by the feature tracking website WABetaInfo, particularly in the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for both iOS and Android. Users enrolled in the beta program, specifically those on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.25.7 or iOS version 24.24.10.76, can access this new function.

For those with access, generating a QR code is straightforward. Users managing an existing Channel can navigate to the Channel information panel and select the sharing options to create a QR code. Once generated, this QR code can be shared with others on WhatsApp or other messaging applications. Additionally, as it is produced as an image file, it can be dispatched via various third-party apps or even printed, providing a practical tool for businesses looking to facilitate follower engagement.

While the exact date for the public rollout of the QR code sharing feature remains uncertain, WhatsApp is simultaneously testing other promising additions to the app. Upcoming features include the ability to share complete sticker packs, an image lookup function that allows users to search online for images and improved contact management across multiple devices. These enhancements are anticipated to be made available to users following extensive testing as part of the beta program.
