Trump Administration Highlights Immigration Policies in 100-Day Celebration
The White House has initiated its celebration of President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office by focusing on its measures against illegal immigration.
At an early morning briefing, Tom Homan, the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), joined White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt to discuss significant reductions in border crossings alongside new executive orders enhancing deportations and border enforcement.
“We are currently implementing the largest deportation campaign in U.S. history,” Leavitt stated. “Following four years of criticism from the Biden-Harris administration, our dedicated ICE officers can finally execute their duties.”
During the briefing, Homan asserted that the Biden administration intentionally compromised border security, despite the secure border established by the previous Trump administration.
Historic Low in Illegal Immigrant Encounters
“With a 96% decrease in border crossings, consider how many women are spared from cartel-related sexual assault,” Homan remarked. “How many children are not perishing during that perilous journey? How many women and children are escaping from sex trafficking into the U.S.? How many known or suspected terrorists are thwarted from entering this country? How much fentanyl is not entering the U.S. to endanger young lives?”
Deportation Protections Ended for Venezuelans
This briefing marks the first of several planned morning press conferences from the White House. On Tuesday, Leavitt will be joined by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for another briefing.
The Trump administration emphasized that the ongoing Operation Tidal Wave is the most extensive deportation effort in American history, with Leavitt mentioning that this initiative is just the beginning and a “sign of things to come.”
The administration announced earlier in April that it had already deported around 100,000 illegal immigrants, although no updated figures were provided during Monday’s press conference.
Polling indicates that President Trump’s immigration policies maintain widespread popularity among the public.
Recent Legal Challenges and High-Profile Deportations
Noteworthy deportations have recently included sending migrants to a mega-prison in El Salvador after invoking the Alien Enemies Act, a law from 1798, targeted at Venezuelan gang members. This decision currently faces legal challenges, with the Trump administration having deported 17 alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang from Guantánamo Bay back to El Salvador using Title 8 on Sunday night.
