Attorney Alina Habba from New Jersey gained national attention in 2021, stepping into the role of a staunch legal advocate for President-elect Donald Trump amid various legal challenges and criminal allegations leading up to his recent electoral victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.

With Trump’s second administration on the horizon, Habba is set to transition into the role of counselor to the president.

In a recent announcement on Truth Social, Trump praised Habba’s unwavering commitment, stating, “Alina has been a tireless advocate for Justice, a fierce Defender of the Rule of Law, and an invaluable Advisor to my Campaign and Transition Team. She has stood by me through numerous trials and battles.”

Fox News Digital examined the trajectory of Habba’s legal career and her emergence as a prominent figure in Trump’s inner circle and the upcoming administration.

Trump brought Habba on board in 2021 to navigate a series of legal battles. She is the managing partner of Habba Madaio & Associates LLP, a law practice located in Bedminster, New Jersey, which also serves clients in New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. At just 40 years old, Habba boasts a rich background as a first-generation American, raised by Chaldean Catholic Iraqi immigrants. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Lehigh University and later obtained her Juris Doctor from Widener University.

During her remarks at the RNC in Milwaukee in July, Habba expressed her gratitude for Trump’s support, stating, “As a devout Catholic and a proud first-generation Arab American woman, President Trump has empowered me to become who I am today.” She emphasized that his backing has inspired many young women pursuing ambitious goals.

Before aligning with Trump, Habba focused on legal cases concerning negligent nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. During her career, she has also been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2016 to 2022 and was named among the “Top 100 Lawyers in America.” Beyond her legal work, she is involved in philanthropic ventures, including supporting Birth Haven, a charity for pregnant homeless women.

Habba’s rise in the legal sphere coincided with Trump’s extensive legal troubles as he prepared for the 2024 presidential election, where she became one of his most trusted advisors and legal spokespersons. Her legal acumen came into play when she represented Trump in a lawsuit against his niece, Mary Trump, and the New York Times for allegedly breaching contractual rights and conspiring to obtain his tax documents.

Among her legal achievements for Trump are the dismissal of Summer Zervos’s defamation lawsuit and a significant Supreme Court ruling that quashed Michael Cohen’s appeal seeking damages related to his work with Trump. Commenting on Cohen’s defeats, Habba remarked, “Michael Cohen has exhausted every avenue of his pathetic attempt… The Supreme Court has correctly denied his petition.”

Habba’s prominence further escalated as Trump faced the E. Jean Carroll lawsuits. Carroll accused Trump of rape in her 2019 memoir, leading to defamation suits against him. Despite Trump’s denials, a jury determined he had sexually abused Carroll, rendering a $5 million verdict in her favor, with subsequent lawsuits yielding even higher penalties against Trump.

Joining Trump’s legal team for Carroll’s second suit, Habba faced significant challenges as Trump denied the allegations in public forums. Ultimately, Carroll secured over $83 million in combined damages for defamation and reputational harm.

Habba characterized the various legal trials Trump has endured as evidence of systemic bias against him, arguing that they show an exploitation of the judicial system. Following one court ruling, she stated, “I am so proud to stand with President Trump. But I am not proud to stand with what I saw in that courtroom.”

In addition to her work with the Carroll cases, Habba has actively contested a civil fraud suit initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James, which alleges fraudulent asset valuations by Trump and his organization.

James’s investigation into the Trump Organization has prompted Habba to defend the former president vigorously, alleging that the legal proceedings represent misuse of prosecutorial power that threatens the private sector.

Following a series of judicial rulings affirming James’s claims, Trump and his legal team denounced the proceedings as a “witch hunt,” asserting their innocence while contending that their assets had been mischaracterized.

With the recent announcement of Habba’s ascendance to the position of counselor to the president, she has received commendations from Trump’s supporters for her fierce legal representation of the former president over the past few years.

In her past remarks, Habba highlighted the ongoing political and legal challenges facing Trump, promising advocacy for his administration’s agenda: “The Trump administration will fix this problem. We will stop Kamala Harris’s regime— and we must remember what led us here.” She expressed a deeply personal connection to Trump, stating in her RNC speech, “To my Iraqi parents, he is a mentor to their daughter, but to me, he is my friend.”

Habba is poised to continue her impactful role in Trump’s administration, which will include responsibilities for providing legal counsel and shaping policy initiatives as the new term unfolds.

In a recent appearance on Fox News, Habba expressed her commitment to her new responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of addressing critical issues facing the nation: “I am ready to get to work on all things that we need to do to fix this country.”
