Nessy’s Reveal on “The Masked Singer”: Edwin McCain Celebrates a Humorous Redemption
During a recent episode of “The Masked Singer,” Ken Jeong’s humorous misjudgment of Nessy’s true identity as Sting elicited reactions of exasperation from his fellow panelists. However, the unmasking of Nessy brought unexpected delight to the performer, marking a significant moment of redemption for him.
The reveal, which occurred on Wednesday night, narrowed the competition down to the final four contestants, but the identity behind the mask was a surprise: it was not Sting, but rather Edwin McCain, famed for his iconic song “I’ll Be.”
In an interview with TheWrap, McCain shared a story that illuminated his connection to Sting, recalling an amusing family moment that added to the irony of Jeong’s guess.
“We were tuning into a Sting Pandora station,” McCain recounted, “when suddenly one of my songs played. I turned to my wife and exclaimed, ‘Look! I’m in the same league as Sting! My song is on his station!’ As more songs by Sting followed, another one of my tracks began playing. I was ecstatic—until I realized I was actually listening to my own playlist.”
This humorous twist took about 15 minutes for McCain and his family to uncover, leading to a rather sheepish moment of realization on his part.
Therefore, when Jeong suggested Sting as a guess for Nessy’s identity, it not only sparked groans from the panel, including host Nick Cannon, but also filled McCain with pride. “In that moment, all I could think was, ‘Aha! I’m back in the conversation, man! Me and Sting, yeah!’” he expressed with excitement.
With a playful spirit, McCain now looks forward to the possibility of receiving an invitation to Sting’s estate in Tuscany. It’s a testament to how a light-hearted moment can create connections and sparks of joy in unexpected ways.
The Masked Singer” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
