A Sneak Peek into a Cut Scene from the Wicked Film Adaptation

Recently, insights about a deleted scene from the much-anticipated Wicked film have emerged, featuring shirtless portrayals of key characters Fiyero and Boq, played by Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater respectively.

Bowen Yang, a prominent figure in the Broadway community, shared details during an appearance on Trisha Paytas’ podcast, Just Trish. He described a moment in the movie where the characters engage in a humorous sequence involving the removal of their shirts, showcasing Bailey in full view of audiences as he flexes.

Marissa Bode, the actress portraying Nessarose, elaborated on this scene during a recent red carpet event. She indicated that the cut scene was part of a larger montage involving the principal characters. “It’s like this more montage-y scene. It’s very silly, very goofy, very youth,” Bode noted. According to her description, this montage includes various activities set in a forest, highlighting Boq and Fiyero humorously chopping wood, among other antics.

Such elements of playfulness were clearly meant to resonate with viewers, particularly within the queer community. Bode expressed that many would have appreciated seeing this fun interaction in the final version of the film. “I think a lot of queer people here would have loved to see that in the final cut,” she remarked.

Additionally, several featurettes related to the film showcase scenes with Elphaba, Glinda, Nessarose, Fiyero, and Boq enjoying a day in a field, suggesting these moments were also derived from the omitted montage.

Director Jon M. Chu has tantalizingly hinted at the existence of a five-hour extended cut of Wicked, which could include this dynamic scene with the two characters.

For now, audiences can watch Wicked, which is currently screening in theaters worldwide. Furthermore, sing-along opportunities for the musical are set to begin on December 25.

The film features an impressive cast including Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose. The first part of the film was released on November 22, 2024, with the sequel scheduled for November 21, 2025.
