PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — With a cold Arctic air mass settling over the eastern part of the United States, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has shared its weather forecast for the last week of January. Residents in Portland may be wondering if they’ll experience similar frigid temperatures or perhaps some snowfall.
The temperature forecast for January 24-30 indicates that the Portland area can expect temperatures to lean below the seasonal average.
In terms of precipitation, NOAA’s outlook suggests conditions will be “near normal” for the upcoming week.
NOAA’s forecast reveals that the temperature in the Portland metro area is expected to be below normal levels. Meanwhile, the precipitation outlook indicates a near-normal pattern.
Meteorologist Josh Cozart from KOIN 6 News noted that the start of January has been unusually dry for the region. “Portland has not recorded any measurable rainfall since January 12, when only 0.04 inches was documented. This has increased the rain deficit as we move further into the year,” he explained.
He added optimism for rain in the latter part of next week. “The high-pressure system that has kept moist weather at bay will begin to weaken, allowing some of the Arctic air affecting the East to seep into parts of western Oregon and Washington. This will likely result in high temperatures dipping below the typical mid-40s expected at this time of year,” Cozart stated.

According to Cozart, residents of Portland will experience a brief “taste of winter” this season.
“The coldest effects will be most significant during the early morning hours, with temperatures dropping to the upper 20s. This will mark the coldest mornings we’re likely to see in Portland so far this winter. Normally, morning lows hover around the mid-30s,” he noted.
However, Cozart reassured that this winter chill will not persist indefinitely. “A gradual warming trend is anticipated as we approach next week, with increased chances of rain. Thus, many forecasts suggest that temperatures will trend back toward normal by the end of the month,” he added.
