Will Smith Teases New Single with Matrix-Inspired Clip

In his latest promotional effort for the upcoming single “Beautiful Scars,” Will Smith has again drawn inspiration from the iconic film The Matrix. In a new trailer, he collaborates with Big Sean, who plays Morpheus, the character originally portrayed by Laurence Fishburne. Together, they reenact the memorable red or blue pill scene from the film, a moment that has a meta significance for Smith as he once declined the role of Neo, famously played by Keanu Reeves.

In the clip, Big Sean, embodying the wisdom of Morpheus, presents Smith with a pivotal choice. “Look, you’ve made some awesome career choices your whole life. There’s only one you truly regret. Well, maybe two, but we’re not gonna focus on that one,” he remarks, alluding to the controversial Oscars incident involving Smith.

The dialogue continues as Big Sean offers Smith the fateful decision: “Blue pill, everything remains the same, and you get to move on with your life. Red pill, you get to go back and star in that movie that got away. The choice is yours.”

After a moment of reflection, Smith ultimately expresses contentment with his current life. “Here’s the thing, I really like my life right now,” he states, humorously opting to take both pills at once. “Shit, that wasn’t even an option,” Big Sean responds, adding a lighthearted twist to the scene. The teaser wraps up with the announcement of the release date for “Beautiful Scars,” set for January 30.

Earlier in the month, Smith had hinted at new content with a previous The Matrix-themed video, where he revealed his earlier offer for the role of Neo. He had turned it down to take on the lead in Wild Wild West. That teaser raised intriguing questions about what the film might have been had Smith accepted the role. There were speculations that he might play a part in the latest installment of the franchise, directed by Drew Goddard. However, it now appears that the focus is on a Matrix-inspired music video accompanying the release of “Beautiful Scars.”
