William Shatner Celebrates 94th Birthday with Philanthropy and Family
William Shatner, known for his iconic role in “Star Trek,” is welcoming his 94th birthday this Saturday with a commitment to giving back, a tradition he has upheld for the past 35 years. Shatner plans to volunteer at his long-standing charity, The Hollywood Charity Horse Show, which he founded in 1990.
“For the last many years, I have celebrated my birthday by working on a very successful charity called The Hollywood Charity Horse Show,” Shatner shared with People magazine. “We have been doing it for 35 years and raised millions of dollars for children and veterans.”
This charitable organization emerged from a deeply personal moment when Shatner witnessed handicapped children benefiting from equine therapy. Inspired by their resilience, he felt compelled to contribute to their well-being.
The charity explains, “On one special Saturday evening each year, William Shatner brings together world-class reining horses and riders in breathtaking slides and spins as they compete for top honors in their respective classes,” with all funds raised directed towards those in need.
In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Shatner is set to enjoy a family outing in Las Vegas. “My family is taking me to Las Vegas for dinner and a show, and then back to Los Angeles,” he remarked. “It’s going to be a family experience in that wonderful, entertaining city. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Reflecting on how he maintains vitality, Shatner advised others to remain engaged and curious, emphasizing that health is integral to one’s life energy. “Your life’s energy, the soul energy of your body is a product of health,” he stated. “If you’re sick, you can’t be energetic. You’re dying. So my luck has been, I’ve been healthy all my life.”
Born on March 22, 1931, in Montreal, Canada, Shatner’s adventurous spirit also took him to space at the age of 90, when he became the oldest person to travel beyond Earth’s atmosphere aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shepard rocket in 2021.
“What I experienced was not so much the flight into space, but my observation,” Shatner shared about that historic journey. “We live on a small rock … I saw the beginning of the curvature of the Earth.” He expressed awe at the insignificance of humankind within the vast universe.
On his birthday, the veteran actor took to social media to express gratitude for the outpouring of birthday wishes. “As I begin my 95th journey around the sun today, I want to take a minute to thank everyone for the birthday wishes! I am overwhelmed at the amount of love I have received. My best, Bill,” he wrote.
Shatner’s birthday has drawn greetings from notable figures such as astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and actress Morgan Fairchild, with Tyson humorously noting, “Happy Birthday William Shatner. Today, completing 94 trips around the Sun. Congratulations on your 55-billion mile journey.”
In addition to his charitable endeavors, Shatner continues to engage with audiences through his hosting role on Fox Nation’s “Aliens Among Us.”
