March updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10 have an odd bug that removes CopilotIt’s easy enough to reinstall the AI, but the glitch is puzzling, not to mention embarrassing for MicrosoftThere are other bugs hitting Windows 11 users, including worrying reports of crashes or even boot failures

Following the recent rollout of updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10, users are encountering a series of unexpected bugs. Released last week, these March patches have sparked reports of various issues affecting the functionality of the operating systems.

The patch designated KB5053598 for Windows 11 version 24H2 appears to be particularly problematic. However, the central issue seems to extend beyond just Windows 11 and is impacting other Windows versions as well.

Users on both Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 23H2, along with those who installed Windows 10’s March patch (KB5053606), have reported that the Copilot application has vanished from their systems. This anomaly includes the app being uninstalled and removed from the taskbar entirely, essentially rendering Microsoft’s AI assistant unavailable on affected devices.

Windows Latest brought this quirky issue to light, noting that Microsoft has acknowledged the problem. The company is currently working on a fix, but users can temporarily resolve the situation by reinstalling the Copilot app from the Microsoft Store and manually pinning it back to their taskbar.

In addition to the Copilot issue, other users of Windows 11 24H2 have reported various bugs, including installation failures and the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), alongside severe complications such as complete boot failures where the PC fails to start after the update.

This was further reported by Windows Latest. The technical site also reports a problem affecting remote desktop sessions (RDP), characterized by frequent disconnections—this issue predominantly impacts business users.

Discussions on Reddit have surfaced additional grievances about BSOD occurrences, as well as hardware connectivity issues, where USB keyboards and mice stop functioning after the March update on Windows 11 systems.

Analysis: An embarrassing inconvenience alongside major woes

The influx of bugs present after the March updates has proven disconcerting for many users, with significant issues such as crashes and boot failures drawing attention. The specific glitch causing the disappearance of the Copilot app is particularly troubling for Microsoft. The company is advocating for greater adoption of its AI assistant, which could become a challenge if users are unexpectedly unable to access it.

This bug does not appear to be widespread, which may offer some relief to the tech giant, but the nature of the problem raises questions about how such an event occurred. Fortunately, reinstalling the Copilot app is a straightforward process, mitigating user frustration to an extent. Nevertheless, this incident may lead to some reputational concern for Microsoft as they strive to promote their AI solutions effectively.
