Canadian Firefighter Aids in California Wildfire Battle

A firefighter from Winnipeg, who was in California visiting friends, joined local efforts to combat the devastating wildfires affecting the region. Romeo Petit and his companions were ordered to evacuate a residence on the outskirts of Pasadena amidst the ongoing emergency.

After quickly retrieving essential belongings and reaching safety, Petit, alongside his girlfriend and a friend, decided to return to the dangerous area to assist in protecting homes from the raging flames. He recounted a harrowing scene as they approached the foothills with a significant wall of fire looming nearby.

Equipped with hoses and utilizing available sprinkler systems, the group worked tirelessly, spraying water onto lawns and nearby structures in an attempt to extinguish flames. Despite strong winds scattering embers in all directions, Petit relied on his training, fully aware that dousing potential fire catchments could increase the chances of saving properties.

Some homes in the area had roof sprinklers that the team successfully activated, which contributed to their firefighting efforts.

After approximately four hours of intense labor, Petit and his friends managed to leave the area safely, just before the only evacuation route was cut off.
