Tragic Crash in Anaheim Claims Life, DUI Investigation Underway

A woman has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence following a devastating car accident that resulted in the death of another driver.

The incident occurred on Sunday night at the crossroads of Magnolia Avenue and West Broadway in Anaheim, as reported by the Anaheim Police Department.

First responders reached the scene around 10 p.m., where a collision involved a red crossover SUV and a white Volkswagen sedan.

Emergency services worked diligently to extricate the driver of the SUV, who was trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Firefighters utilized heavy equipment to free her, and she was subsequently transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries approximately one hour post-accident, and has been identified as a 56-year-old resident of Long Beach.

The other driver, identified as 29-year-old Samantha Farris from Buena Park, was also hospitalized for her injuries.

Samantha Farris, a 29-year-old Buena Park woman, is depicted in a mug shot supplied by the Anaheim Police Department on Feb. 17, 2025.

According to traffic investigators, Farris executed a left turn directly into the path of the SUV, which precipitated the tragic collision. Eyewitness accounts indicated that she may have been consuming alcohol at a nearby venue shortly before the crash, prompting the initiation of a DUI inquiry.

The Anaheim police stated, “There was probable cause to believe that Ms. Farris had been operating a motor vehicle in an unsafe manner while intoxicated.”

Upon her release from medical care, Farris was booked into custody to face potential charges for driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Authorities confirmed that Farris was released on bail the following morning.

The investigation remains active, and police are appealing to the public for any further information. They encourage individuals with insights to reach out to the Anaheim Police Department at 714-765-1900 or contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
