Intoxicated Driver Crashes into El Paso County Patrol Unit

EL PASO, Texas – A 24-year-old woman has been apprehended and charged with driving while intoxicated following a collision with a marked patrol vehicle from the El Paso County Constable’s Office in Northeast El Paso early Saturday morning, February 8, as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).

The individual, identified as Kimberly Dominguez, was taken into custody after the incident, with her bond set at $2,000. In addition, she reportedly had an outstanding warrant related to driving without a license, which carried a $375 bond, according to the EPCSO.

Authorities stated that just before 2:50 a.m. on February 8, EPCSO Special Traffic investigators arrived at the scene of the accident located in the 5300 block of Railroad Drive. The crash involved a patrol unit from Precinct 1 and Dominguez’s vehicle.

At the time of the incident, the Constable deputy was traveling north on Railroad Drive while responding to an active call. His patrol unit had its emergency lights on, and he was driving at a reduced speed compared to typical traffic conditions, as outlined by the EPCSO.

Dominguez, however, did not notice the emergency vehicle and collided forcefully with its rear end, resulting in severe damage to both the patrol unit and her vehicle.

The injured Constable deputy was transported to the University Medical Center for evaluation but has since been released and is reportedly in good health, the EPCSO confirmed.

In response to the incident, Sheriff Oscar Ugarte emphasized the danger posed by intoxicated drivers to both law enforcement personnel and the general public. “This crash underscores the risks that intoxicated drivers pose to law enforcement officers and the public. We remain committed to keeping our roads safe and holding those who drive under the influence accountable,” he stated.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has urged all drivers to prioritize safety by making responsible choices, such as designating a sober driver and maintaining awareness around emergency vehicles with activated lights. They also encourage prompt reporting of any reckless or impaired driving observed on the roads.
