Confrontation at Santa Clarita Bar Leads to Assault Charges

The Brief

A woman has come forward with allegations of inappropriate touching by an 84-year-old man at a bar in Santa Clarita. This incident escalated when her fiancé intervened, resulting in a physical altercation.

The elderly man sustained serious injuries, including a fractured skull and a brain bleed.

Owen Hayes, 21, surrendered to law enforcement on March 17 and has been charged with felony assault. Following the incident, he was also expelled from Masters University.

LOS ANGELES – The fiancé of Owen Hayes, who was captured on surveillance footage assaulting an 84-year-old man at a bar, is speaking out to describe the circumstances leading up to the confrontation.

What We Know

On February 27, staff at Doc’s Inn observed an altercation that began shortly after 1 a.m. The video shows Hayes striking the elderly man, who has since been identified only as 84 years old, and was hospitalized due to his injuries before being released.

Witnesses initially reported a group of four young individuals attacking the elderly man. However, Hayes’s fiancé offers a different narrative, alleging that the older man had crossed a line by making unwanted physical contact.

She claims that while they were at the bar, the man intruded into their space and inappropriately touched her, prompting Hayes to react in her defense.

What They’re Saying

“This man was caressing my forehead and pulling at my hair. I was shocked and felt violated,” Emma stated in an interview with FOX 11. She described feeling helpless in the moment as the man was behaving in a suggestive manner, making her uncomfortable.
