Incident at California Park Involves Flag Replacement
A woman was apprehended on Thursday after she allegedly removed an American flag from its pole at Hart Memorial Park in Bakersfield, California, and substituted it with a Mexican flag.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the park after receiving reports of a potential theft involving the U.S. flag. The deputies arrived to find a vehicle situated on the grass close to the flagpole.
The individual involved, identified as Crystal Aguilar, 24, reportedly cut the chain securing the flagpole, discarded the American flag onto the ground, and hoisted a Mexican flag in its place, declaring that they were on “Mexican land.”
Footage from deputy body cameras captured Aguilar asserting, “You’re not going to tell me what to do, this is Mexican land, motherf—–.”
During the encounter with law enforcement, she allegedly resisted arrest while making threats against the deputies and their families, indicating a willingness to harm them.
Aguilar was heard saying, “Touch me, motherf—–, and when your kids die,” and further stated, “I’m Mexican. I’m Aztec, motherf—–, and you’re going to pay.” This escalating dialogue included threats from her regarding her father’s intentions towards the officers.
As a result of the incident, Crystal Aguilar was arrested and booked into Lerdo Jail, facing charges of trespassing, threatening a peace officer, resisting arrest, and vandalism. Her bail has been set at $20,689 according to jail records.
Aguilar is scheduled to make a court appearance next Monday to address these charges.
