A woman from California, who previously confessed to the murder of her estranged spouse over twenty years ago, is now being sought by federal officials in connection with the recent fatal stabbing of her wife. According to law enforcement, Yolanda Marodi, 53, is wanted regarding the death of Rebecca Marodi, 49, who held a captain position at the state’s wildland firefighting agency.

Authorities from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force are actively searching for Marodi following the incident that occurred last week. San Diego Sheriff’s Lieutenant Michael Krugh detailed that Rebecca Marodi was discovered with multiple stab wounds at her residence in Ramona, a community northeast of San Diego, on February 17. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the site.

The circumstances surrounding the attack and the possible motives behind it have yet to be determined. Rebecca Marodi had an extensive career in fire service, contributing over thirty years to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Her career began in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter, and she achieved the rank of captain in 2022.

Rebecca and Yolanda Marodi were married for slightly more than two years. Reports indicate they were captured in a cheerful photo at a cidery celebrating Yolanda’s birthday in December.

Yolanda Marodi has a history with the law as she previously pleaded guilty to the voluntary manslaughter of her former husband, James Olejniczak, in October 2000. Citing divorce proceedings that took place shortly before his death, it was noted that she sought custody of their children, citing insurmountable differences as a reason for the split.

Court documents reveal that Yolanda, who was then identified as Yolanda Olejniczak, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in 2004 for voluntary manslaughter as well as for other drug-related charges while incarcerated. She was released on parole in 2013 and completed her parole obligations in 2015.

This recent case raises serious concerns regarding the safety and mental health dynamics surrounding domestic relationships, especially for individuals with prior histories of violence. The investigation continues as authorities work diligently to apprehend Yolanda Marodi.
