Jonathan Rea is set to compete in the fourth round of the World Superbike Championship at Cremona, Italy, as confirmed by his Pata Yamaha team. This marks a significant return for the Northern Ireland racer, who has been sidelined during the first three rounds of the 2025 season at Phillip Island, Portimao, and Assen due to injuries sustained from a crash while testing earlier this year.
After enduring multiple fractures to his left foot in February, Rea underwent successful surgery in Belfast and has been focusing on his rehabilitation at home. According to updates from his team, the six-time world champion plans to participate pending an official review from the FIM Medical Director on Thursday, following discussions with his medical team.
The statement from the team emphasized Rea’s dedication to his recovery, noting he has made every effort to heal from his injuries quickly. The 38-year-old expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming race, stating that the past few months have felt lengthy but worthwhile. “In the last 3-4 weeks, I’ve maximized regaining strength and function in my left foot,” Rea commented.
He acknowledged that the severity of the injury was greater than initially assessed and expressed gratitude for the support he received, especially from fans who sent messages of encouragement. “I feel confident and ready—Cremona is a track I haven’t raced on before, but I did manage to complete a few laps in testing last season. I’m just really happy to be back with my team and riding my Yamaha R1,” he added.
This season marks Rea’s second with Yamaha, coming off a challenging 2024, where he finished 13th in the overall standings, claiming only one podium at the championship round in Donington, UK. As he gears up for this next challenge, his return is highly anticipated by fans and teammates alike.
