Elfyn Evans has slipped to third place in the World Rally Championship standings following a fifth-place finish at Rally Latvia on Sunday.
The Welsh driver faced challenges early in the competition, losing significant time during Friday’s stage and was unable to recover sufficiently in the subsequent sessions to challenge for the top spots.
Meanwhile, his Toyota teammate, Kalle Rovanperä, showcased a stellar performance, leading from the outset and securing a commanding victory on the gravel surface with a margin of 39.2 seconds.
Sébastien Ogier, also driving a Toyota, finished in second place, while Ott Tänak clinched the third position on the podium. Tänak’s success came after local favorite Mārtiņš Sesks encountered a transmission issue during the Wolf Power Stage, which cost him a podium finish.
Maximizing his points haul from Super Sunday, Tänak has surged to second in the drivers’ standings. He is now only eight points behind his Hyundai teammate Thierry Neuville, who leads with 145 points. Evans remains close in the standings, trailing Tänak by just five points.
The Championship continues with the next event, Rally Finland, scheduled from August 1 to 4.
