Wrexham’s Value Surges Following Championship Promotion
Wrexham’s valuation is projected to reach £150 million after their recent promotion to the Championship, as analyzed by football finance specialist Kieran Maguire.
This marks a staggering increase of 7,400% since Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acquired the club for approximately £2 million in 2021.
At the time of the purchase, Wrexham was competing in the fifth-tier National League. However, their impressive 3-0 victory over Charlton on Saturday has catapulted them to their third consecutive promotion.
The club will now compete in the Championship next season, returning to this level for the first time since 1982, with aspirations of advancing to the Premier League.
Bloomberg reported that Wrexham was valued at around £100 million in March 2025, prior to the release of the latest financial data and confirmation of their promotion.
“I suspect that the promotion was partially included in the original valuation, but the strong brand association with the owners could elevate that value further, with the team now just 46 matches away from the Premier League,” Maguire mentioned in a discussion with BBC Sport.
“For context, Ipswich was valued at £100 million in February 2024 prior to their Premier League promotion in May, so an excellent start to the upcoming season could potentially increase Wrexham’s value beyond that by 50% or more, thanks to the influence of Ryan and Rob.”
