Bull Riding Brings a New Sport to NYC: Matt West
Professional Bull Riders announcer Matt West and 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis recently highlighted the PBR’s return to Madison Square Garden, sharing the excitement of the event while co-hosts from ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ took a turn on a mechanical bull.
Tragically, a 24-year-old bull rider lost his life following an incident during an event in Wharton County, Texas, on Thursday.
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) expressed its condolences in a statement regarding the passing of bull rider Dylan Grant, stating, “The PRCA would like to send its thoughts and prayers to Dylan Grant’s family, friends, and the entire rodeo/bull riding community after Grant passed away following injuries sustained during the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event.”
Grant began his bull riding journey in 2018 and had recently celebrated a year as a professional rider. After the accident, he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he unfortunately passed away.
A native of Laramie, Wyoming, Grant participated in numerous ProRodeo and Xtreme Bulls competitions throughout his career. His accomplishments in bull riding included earnings of over $15,710, with $3,760 accumulated this season alone.

In addition to his competitive achievements, Grant rode for the University of Wyoming rodeo team and was the champion of the bull riding division at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo in 2021.
“What happened to Dylan is a tremendous tragedy for all of us at the PRCA,” a spokesperson conveyed to Fox News Digital. “Fatal incidents in rodeo are exceptionally rare, and our immediate concern is supporting Dylan’s family and all those impacted within the rodeo community during this difficult time.”
“The PRCA has established protocols for reviewing serious incidents to enhance the safety of our participants and animals. Recommendations from such reviews may lead to financial penalties or the exclusion of individuals from future events, yet at this moment, we face many unknowns.”
Wade Grant, Dylan’s father, recounted to ABC News that his son suffered a neck injury from being stepped on by a bull. “He got out of the arena and went directly to the ambulance, but Dylan was incredibly tough,” Wade noted.
Referring to the accident, he described it as an unfortunate “freak occurrence.”
Just last month, another rider was thrown from a bull during an event in Houston, underscoring the inherent risks associated with bull riding. PRCA officials reiterate that such fatal accidents are exceptionally rare.

“The loss is impossible to put into words. It generates an overwhelming sense of grief,” Wade added, highlighting Dylan’s benevolent nature.
The Grant family emphasized that Dylan acknowledged the dangers of his sport and prioritized safety measures, always wearing a hockey helmet and Kevlar vest during competitions.
Kendra Santa, a rodeo podcaster, expressed her sorrow for the loss on social media, stating, “Our rodeo family mourns the departure of a talented young cowboy last night. Dylan Grant, a bull rider from Wyoming, tragically suffered an injury during the Wharton event. Emergency medical personnel attended to him at the scene.”
Dylan was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston where he was ultimately pronounced dead. Santa conveyed, “At such a moment of profound grief, words may fall short, but our love and prayers are with Dylan’s family and friends.”
In another concerning incident, bull rider Zachary Naegele survived a serious goring injury in Florida last month but is expected to recover fully and intends to continue competing.
