Debate Erupts Over Who Truly Jumpstarted Streaming’s Mainstream Success

xQc and Adin Ross are recognized as prominent figures on the streaming platform Kick.

Recently, xQc expressed his opposition to PlaqueBoyMax’s assertion that Adin Ross was the inaugural streamer to achieve mainstream success.

This discussion originated during a January 31 Twitch stream hosted by PlaqueBoyMax, a member of FaZe Clan, where he shared his perspective on the trajectory of streaming popularity.

Max stated, “Adin was the first person really doing it for Twitch, one hundred percent. He was ahead of Kai and Speed. Sure, Speed was gaining traction around the same time, but his impact wasn’t on par with what Adin achieved.”

This remark quickly drew criticism on social media, with many users disputing Max’s claim. One commentator pointedly asked on Twitter, “Does Ninja not exist?” while another highlighted Ninja’s groundbreaking live stream with rapper Drake, which took place before mainstream collaborations became a norm in the streaming community.

xQc Critiques the “Rewriting” of Streaming History

xQc joined the fray, aligning with the sentiments of those who contend that Ninja was indeed the first streamer to attain widespread recognition.

He asserted, “The narrative of streaming history needs to halt. Ninja was the first and remains unrivaled in his mainstream appeal; no one has matched his level, which took years for others to achieve.”

Historical context supports xQc’s viewpoint; Ninja made significant strides in the streaming world as early as March 2018, famously co-streaming Fortnite with celebrities such as Drake and Travis Scott. In contrast, Adin Ross’s streaming journey commenced later in October 2018, with Ninja’s notable achievements preceding Ross’s entry into the arena.

Additionally, Ninja’s appearances on mainstream television shows like Jimmy Fallon and Ellen in 2018 further solidified his status as a juggernaut in the streaming sector, bringing gaming and streaming into the public consciousness.

While xQc’s argument resonated with many, FaZe member StableRonaldo humorously contended that Kick’s LosPollos should be recognized as the first to reach mainstream status.

StableRonaldo tweeted, “The notion of who was truly mainstream first needs reassessment. LosPollos was the original and unparalleled leader in that domain. It has taken years for the streaming community to catch up to his level of influence,” referencing the influence of LosPollos, who began streaming in 2014 and is recognized as a pioneer by a wave of newer streamers including Jynxzi and YourRage.

Even if xQc did not initially break into the mainstream, his status as one of the most recognized streamers is indisputable, as he ranks among the top 20 most-followed accounts on Twitch.
