Xreal Unveils One Pro Glasses at CES 2025: A Promising Step Forward in AR Technology
A significant evolution in personal cinema-style augmented reality (AR) glasses was showcased at CES 2025, where Xreal introduced its latest model, the One Pro. Having previously experienced various AR glasses that often disappointed, I approached this new offering with a mix of skepticism and curiosity.
The One Pro is an upgrade from the recently launched Xreal One, which quickly sold out following its release. Both models feature Xreal’s proprietary spatial computing chip, enhancing the viewer’s experience by reducing blur and flicker, while boasting a remarkable 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the One Pro comes equipped with sound technology from Bose, though testing audio quality in the bustling environment of a casino ballroom posed challenges.
The new X1 chip is designed to manage the spatial processes internally, allowing for expansive displays without relying heavily on connected devices. This feature facilitates an augmented workspace, transforming a small area into an expansive desktop environment ideal for productivity. Additionally, users can seamlessly integrate a gaming console into their virtual setup, even while connected to lower-powered devices. During the demo, I interacted with two applications: one involved playing Super Mario Odyssey on a Nintendo Switch, while the other showcased an ultra-wide desktop on a laptop.
However, a common limitation still exists with these devices: the trick of convincing one’s eyes that two small screens are one large monitor situated farther away. Despite this inherent challenge, the One Pro managed to present the illusion more effectively than previous iterations, thanks in part to its improved resolution, brightness, and wide viewing angles.
Immersed in Odyssey, I lost track of time, playing for an extended period without experiencing discomfort—a rarity for such devices. The ability to comfortably read the text on the ultra-wide desktop display, including even the smaller titles in browser tabs, was particularly impressive. While this level of comfort should be considered a baseline expectation for AR glasses, successfully achieving it signifies a noteworthy advancement.
While my initial impressions are positive, definitive evaluation will depend on a more thorough examination of the One Pro’s capabilities. The Xreal One is set to return to stores soon, while the One Pro is anticipated to begin shipping by March 2025.
