Alvin Joiner, known as Xzibit, who gained fame as a rapper and as the host of MTV’s “Pimp My Ride,” is currently embroiled in legal disputes with his estranged wife, Krista Joiner. An attorney representing Xzibit has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Krista’s attorney, asserting that her allegations regarding his financial dealings and threats of violence are unfounded.
The cease-and-desist letter, made public by TheWrap and penned by Xzibit’s attorney Victor Balladares, strongly contests Krista Joiner’s claims, including her assertion that he illicitly sold a share of his cannabis business, Brass Knuckles, and allegedly threatened harm to an auto detailer. In the letter, Balladares accuses Krista’s legal representation, Cris Armenta, of engaging in “unethical, improper, and legally indefensible conduct.”
Balladares elaborated on the seriousness of the accusations against Krista’s attorney, addressing behaviors such as misusing the legal system and pressuring witnesses. He warns that if these actions continue, they could lead to civil litigation, a potential criminal referral, and an official complaint to the state bar association.
The divorce proceedings commenced in 2021, with Krista’s attorney recently alleging that Xzibit breached court orders by selling off his stake in Brass Knuckles—a cannabis company he helped found during their marriage, valued at approximately $170 million. A restraining order was also filed for Julio Garcia, an auto detailer who had worked for both Joiners.
Garcia claimed in court filings that Xzibit had threatened him to prevent him from revealing information related to Xzibit’s assets and activities, such as the locations of various vehicles and properties. He recounted a particular incident where Xzibit allegedly warned, “I’ll kill you,” in response to Garcia’s intention to testify about his findings while cleaning Xzibit’s cars.
In the letter, Balladares alleges that Armenta has employed intimidation tactics against potential witnesses to extract statements that would favor Krista Joiner’s claims, detailing instances of coercion and threats regarding legal repercussions if witnesses did not comply.
Moreover, the letter denies Krista’s assertions about Xzibit concealing marital assets. It highlights that she has been living in luxury accommodation and has made significant purchases, such as a new BMW, while receiving substantial monthly financial support from Xzibit as mandated by the court.
“Your client has propagated baseless claims about hidden assets and financial misconduct, all without any substantive evidence,” Balladares articulated. “Despite having been shown financial records that contradict her assertions, she continues to parade these allegations, causing irreparable harm to Mr. Joiner’s reputation.”
In response, Krista’s attorney Armenta defended her client’s position, emphasizing the necessity to ascertain the whereabouts of shared community assets and to ensure the safety of her child from perceived threats. She expressed disappointment at the tactics employed by Xzibit’s legal team, claiming that they are misrepresenting facts in public discourse while attempting to prepare for a fair judicial process.
Armenta concluded by stressing the importance of addressing the issues in court rather than through media channels, asserting that the focus should remain on the judicial system to determine the facts of the case.
