Yami Gautam Seeks Theatre Re-Release for ‘Article 370’
Bollywood star Yami Gautam recently expressed her wish for a theatrical re-release of her film ‘Article 370,’ which debuted globally in February 2024. The movie, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, centers on the significant provisions of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that afforded special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir.
During a conversation with IANS, Yami shared her personal connection to the film, highlighting that she missed the opportunity to watch it with an audience due to her pregnancy at the time of its initial release. Her yearning for a re-release is rooted in a desire for fans to experience the film on the big screen, a sentiment she is passionate about.
When asked which films she would like to see back in theatres, Yami mentioned, “That’s a question for the audience! But personally, I would love to see Uri or Vicky Donor on the big screen again. Also, Bala, A Thursday, and Article 370—especially Article 370 because I didn’t get the chance to watch it with an audience.” This connection to ‘Article 370’ stands out for her, making it an emotional choice among her favorites.
‘Article 370’ portrays themes surrounding the unique political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir and the historical implications of the constitutional article it is named after.
The film, produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar, features a talented cast, including Priyamani, Skand Thakur, Ashwini Kaul, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Arun Govil, and Kiran Karmarkar. Officially released on February 23, 2024, the film signifies an important narrative in contemporary Indian cinema.
In addition to discussing her desire for a re-release, Yami reflected on her script selection process, where she prioritizes personal connection with the story.
She elaborated, “I rely on my instincts. I make a conscious effort not to get too comfortable with what I’ve previously done or what I consider my strengths. I don’t overanalyze. The first feeling I get after reading a script—whether it excites me or challenges me—guides my decision. I strive to be as versatile as possible and stay true to my choices. There is always a deliberate effort behind making something appear effortless. It’s about consistently working in a certain direction and taking on roles that push my boundaries.”
