Jazz Chisholm Jr. Ejected Amid Controversy Over Social Media Policy Violation
In a heated moment during Thursday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was ejected after taking issue with a third strike call made by home plate umpire John Bacon. This incident marked Chisholm’s fifth career ejection and his first since joining the Yankees.
Chisholm expressed his frustration vocally at the plate, leading to his dismissal in the seventh inning, but this confrontation didn’t conclude there. Shortly after being ejected, he took to social media to voice his discontent, stating, “Not even f—ing close” in a post on X, which he later deleted. His comments came while the game was still in progress, raising questions about possible breaches of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) social media policy.
MLB has specific guidelines regarding the use of electronic devices during games, mandating that players refrain from using such equipment 30 minutes before the game until its conclusion. Additionally, the policy expressly forbids any comments that might question the impartiality or demean a game umpire. Chisholm’s social media activity seemed to violate both aspects of this rule.
After the game, Chisholm defended his actions, suggesting that he did not believe his initial comments warranted ejection, although he acknowledged that what he said afterward likely did. He emphasized the competitive nature that drives his reactions on the field, stating, “I’m a competitor, so when I go out there, and I feel like I’m right, and you’re saying something to me that I think doesn’t make sense, I’m going to get fired up and be upset.” He later reflected on the need to maintain composure, adding, “I lost my emotions, I lost my cool. So, at the same time, I still got to be able to stay out there and play defense for my team. That’s why I’m here.”
Despite the controversy surrounding Chisholm’s ejection and subsequent social media post, the Yankees secured a 6-3 victory over the Rays, continuing their strong performance this season.
