A New ‘Consistent Volume’ Feature in YouTube MusicThis aims to standardize track volume levelsRollout is gradual and not universally available yet
YouTube Music is taking steps to enhance the listening experience by addressing sudden shifts in track volume. The platform’s latest update introduces a feature designed to maintain a more uniform volume across its music library.
As reported by 9to5Google, this new ‘consistent volume’ option is being rolled out on YouTube Music’s apps for both Android and iOS devices. Its primary goal is to ensure that all songs maintain a similar volume level, allowing for a smoother listening experience.
While the feature will not change the inherent loudness or softness of individual songs, it will help alleviate the frustration caused by tracks that differ significantly in volume due to factors like recording practices or conversion processes.
Gradual Rollout
The implementation of this consistent volume feature appears to be occurring gradually. Some users have reported seeing it, while others, such as the team at Android Authority, have not yet gained access. Early adopters can check for this feature by going into the YouTube Music app, tapping their profile icon, and navigating to the Settings section, then selecting Playback (for Android) or Playback and restrictions (for iOS).
In regions like the UK, users may not yet see this option on their devices. Users should ensure that they have updated to version 8.15 of the YouTube Music app, as this is necessary for the feature to appear.
The introduction of a consistent volume mechanism is a welcomed addition among YouTube Music users, who have expressed their desire for volume normalization through various Reddit discussions over the years. Although an official announcement from Google regarding this update is still pending, users are hopeful for further clarity on the feature’s availability.
